With spring just around the corner, the Clean Green Transfer Station will be opening up again on March 1, 2014 for Bellingham residents. Clean Green Yard Waste, near the corner of Woburn and Lakeway Streets in the Whatcom Falls neighborhood, is a collection site for residential yard waste. The station is open Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from March through November according to the City of Bellingham’s website.
Clean Green charges $5 for each load of waste, which the City of Bellingham defines as “a pickup truck, garbage bag, trailer or bundle.” Residents are only allowed to drop off the following:
- Grass clippings
- Garden trimmings
- Limbs up to 8 inches diameter and up to 7 feet long
- Vines
- Leaves
- Other natural vegetation
Rocks, garbage, roots/root balls, lumber, construction/land debris, and hazardous waste are not accepted. Residents are advised to have exact change on hand because change will not be available. For questions or more information, contact the Public Works Department.
Other options for dealing with yard waste include creating your own compost pile or contacting one of the six waste facilities including City Organics, Sanitary Service Company and Nooksack Valley Disposal. These three services can come straight to your home to pick up your yard waste. More options for places to bring waste are listed in the table below, from Whatcom County’s website, along with contact information and what materials each facility accepts.
